Best Fenced Playgrounds In and Around Melbourne
/Now that Melbourne is putting on some stunning weather for us, it is time to head outdoors and enjoy the sunshine.
If you have an adventurous little one (read: a runner!), or you have more than one child, a fenced playground can be a blessing! Some of the best fenced playgrounds can be found in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne, but there sure are some great picks across the southern, northern and western suburbs of Melbourne too.

Plum Garland Memorial Playground, Albert Park
Right on the Albert Park foreshore sits the Plum Garland Memorial Playground. This fully fenced awesome playground includes a large sandpit, swings, slides and climbing equipment. There is a lovely picnic area with shaded seating, so be sure to pack a picnic lunch for your adventure!

Markham Reserve Playground, Ashburton
This top playground is perfect for toddlers. Markham Reserve Playground is fully fenced with plenty of slides, swings, climbing equipment and a great sandpit. The playspace itself is quite large and is partially shaded in spots. There is ample parking nearby, picnic facilities, public restrooms and there is a good walking/cycling track near the playspace too.

Beckett Park, Balwyn
Located on Parring Road in Balwyn, Beckett Park is a beautiful space to enjoy. A partially fenced playground full of fun equipment for your little ones, as well as large stunning gardens to explore, makes for the perfect place for a day out with your family. The garden is full of lovely flowers that your littlies will enjoy spotting!

Dendy Street Playground, Brighton East
Dendy Street Playground is a great pick for the little ones who love playing in the sand! Bring along a bucket and spade and play ‘til your hearts content! There’s lots of play large equipment structures, which is great for your toddlers and little bubs will love the sensory experience of the sand between their fingers.

Bundoora Park Playspace, Bundoora
A visit to Bundoora Park is a great day out for the family. The Bundoora Park playspace is fully fenced and sits right next door to a cafe. It is part of the wider Bundoora Park Farm, full of family friendly activities and farm animals for your little ones to see.

Cooper Reserve, Camberwell
A lovely little playspace in the back streets of Camberwell, Cooper Reserve makes a great spot for a play-date. This fully fenced play space is a also good option for those with slightly older siblings, as there is a large climbing net sure to keep them occupied for the morning. A large table and seats, suitably sized for a picnic lunch, sits under the shade within the playspace and there are public toilets just outside of the fenced play area.

Bicentennial Park, Chelsea
Wooden towers, a bright yellow boat, a big sandpit and plenty of swings bring a fun-filled afternoon in Chelsea. This fully fenced playspace at Bicentennial Park has ample room for your next picnic adventure. Although some of the features (such as the infamous cow statue) could do with a slight upgrade, this much loved park is well worth a visit.

Copper Butterfly Playspace, Eltham
This amazing playspace in Eltham Lower Park is themed around the Copper Butterfly, and is well worth a visit. The playground is fully fenced, and designed for all abilities. This play space is full of great equipment such as swings, tunnels, slides, climbing hills and even a flying fox. There is ample parking, public toilets, BBQs and picnic tables all close by making for a fantastic day out for your family.

Tim Neville Arboretum Playground, Ferntree Gully
One of two fabulous playgrounds in Melbourne’s outer suburb of Ferntree Gully, Tim Neville Arboretum playground is a popular choice. This fully fenced playground features climbing frames, slides, swings and plenty for your little ones to explore. There is ample parking around the Arboretum, as well as BBQ facilities and seating in the surrounding parklands.

Wally Tew Reserve, Ferntree Gully
This lovely playground is shaded by big trees. There’s plenty of parking space given the Wally Tew Reserve playground is right near the local library and a footy ground. There’s public toilets nearby, picnic and BBQ facilities, and even a supermarket close-by so you can stop in and grab your supplies for morning tea. The playground features a large sandpit, slides, climbing equipment, swings (including a mobility swing), a flying fox and a pram friendly path looping all the fully fenced playground - you couldn’t ask for more!

Langdon Reserve Playground, Fitzroy
Langdon Reserve is a beautiful spot to stop for lunch, with lots to explore, BBQ facilities and seating. There is a great fully fenced playground, which is best suited to slightly older kids, plus plenty of green space for little ones to run around!

Edinburgh Gardens Playground, Fitzroy North
Located towards the south side of the Edinburgh Gardens, this fenced playground has plenty to explore - from monkey bars, slides, swings, climbing equipment there is something for all ages. There are public toilets, BBQ facilities and picnic areas nearby, including large shaded tables - perfect for a picnic lunch!

Geelong Playspace, East Geelong
A family visit to seaside Geelong isn’t complete without stopping by the Geelong Botanic Gardens and the brilliant Geelong play space. This fenced playground provides plenty of nature play and sensory experiences, as well as different play equipment. There are public toilets, BBQ facilities and picnic areas nearby, as well as a wonderful walking path to explore the botanical gardens.

Hartwell Station Reserve Playground, Hartwell
Although this is a smaller playground, it is a great pick out East due to its prime location right across the street from a fantastic cafe. Hartwell Station Playground is one for the train lovers (my little guy being one of them) - and it is fully fenced too! What a gem! Right across the road is a lovely little cafe - Fordhams Milk Bar - so you can stock up on supplies before heading over to the playground to enjoy a fun filled morning tea.

Possum Hollow Playground, Heidelberg
This popular pick is favoured by Mumma’s all across Melbourne. Possum Hollow Playground features climbing hills, slides, swings and plenty of space to roam. There’s plenty of parking (although please be aware that most is ticketed parking) and public toilets are nearby, however there isn’t much by the way of shade - so be sure to pack a hat and sunscreen for your visit.

Hays Paddock Playspace, Kew East
Hays Paddock Playspace makes the perfect spot for a family picnic and a bit of a play, with ample picnic facilities, public toilets and a great walking track. The fully fenced playground at Hays Paddock is best suited to older toddlers and young ones in early primary school - there is plenty of fun to be had, especially on the flying fox.

Pheonix Park Playground, Malvern East
This great local playground is constructed almost entirely out of wood. Pheonix Park is a fully fenced fantastic wooden playground, with twists and turns, climbing equipment, plenty of swings and fun galore. There’s a cafe, library, skate park and plenty of open green space all surrounding the playspace.

Wombat Bend Playspace, Templestowe Lower
Another popular playground, Wombat Bend Playspace is fully fenced and is packed with fun play equipment for your little ones. There’s a fantastic walking track at Finn’s Reserve so it is even a great option for mum’s with bubs in prams.

Lyell Iffla Reserve, South Melbourne
This fenced playground is a hidden gem near Melbourne’s CBD. There’s lots of space for your kids to explore and plenty of different equipment to keep them entertained for a good morning of play at Lyell Iffla Reserve. The playground can be found on the corner of Lyell Street and Dorcas Street in South Melbourne.

Ludwig Stamer Reserve, South Melbourne
Located on Cobden Street in South Melbourne, the Ludwig Stamer Reserve is quite small however the playground is fenced and features two big blue slides, swings and a small climbing wall for those exploring closer to the CBD.
